Why Bitcoin is Superior to Gold

There is a constant war being fought between goldbugs, like Peter Schiff, and Bitcoin enthusiasts so I decided to make an outline, with links, comparing and contrasting gold and Bitcoin. I made this in November of 2019 (thus the information therein is based on figures from that time) but, being scatter brained, neglected to post this for the Bitcoin community to see. The yardsticks I used to compare the two assets included the following: shipping/transactions costs, storage costs, censorship factor, settlement time, stock to flow, blockchain vs clearing house, validation, etc. I will also touch on Roosevelt's gold confiscation executive order in 1933, transporting gold during the Spanish Civil War in 1936, and the hypothetical cost for Venezuela to repatriate its gold more recently.
I will provide a brief summary first then follow that with the outline I made. This information can be used as a tool for the Bitcoin community to combat some of the silly rhetoric coming from goldbugs such as Peter Schiff and James Rickards. I would like to make it clear, however, that I am not against gold and think that it performed its role as money very well in a technologically inferior era, namely Victorian times but I think Bitcoin performs the functions of money better than gold does in the current environment.
I have been looking to make a contribution to the Bitcoin community and I hope this is a useful and educational tool for everyone who reads this.
Summary:
Shipping/transaction costs: 100 ounces of gold could be shipped for 315 dollars; the comparable dollar value in Bitcoin could be sent for 35 dollars using a non-segwit address. Using historical precendent, it would cost an estimated $32,997,989 to transport $1 billion in gold using the 3.3% fee that the Soviets charged the Spaniards in 1936; a $1 billion Bitcoin transaction moved for $690 last year by comparison. Please note that the only historic example we can provide for moving enormous sums of gold was when the government of Spain transported gold to Moscow during the Spanish Civil War in 1936. More information on this topic will be found in the notes section.
Storage costs: 100 ounces of gold would require $451 per year to custody while the equivalent value of Bitcoin in dollar terms could be stored for the cost of a Ledger Nano S, $59.99. $1 billion USD value of gold would cost $2,900,000 per year while an Armory set up that is more secure would run you the cost of a laptop, $200-300.
Censorship factor: Gold must pass through a 3rd party whenever it is shipped, whether for a transaction or for personal transportation. Gold will typically have to be declared and a customs duty may be imposed when crossing international borders. The key take-away is gatekeepers (customs) can halt movement of gold thus making transactions difficult. $46,000 of gold was seized in India despite the smugglers hiding it in their rectums.
Settlement time: Shipping gold based on 100 ounces takes anywhere from 3-10 days while Bitcoin transactions clear in roughly 10 minutes depending on network congestion and fee size.
Historic confiscation: Franklin Roosevelt confiscated and debased the paper value of gold in 1933 with Executive Order 6102. Since gold is physical in nature and value dense, it is often stored in custodial vaults like banks and so forth which act as a honeypot for rapacious governments.
Stock to flow: Plan B's stock to flow model has become a favorite on twitter. Stock to flow measures the relationship between the total stock of an asset against the amount that is produced in a given year. Currently gold still has the highest value at 62 while Bitcoin sits at 50 in 2nd place. Bitcoin will overtake gold in 2024 after the next halving.
Blockchain vs clearing house: gold payments historically passed through a 3rd party (clearinghouse) in order to be validated while Bitcoin transactions can be self validated through the use of a node.
Key Takeaway from above- Bitcoin is vastly superior to gold in terms of cost, speed, and censorship resistance. One could theoretically carry around an enormous sum of Bitcoin on a cold card while the equivalent dollar value of gold would require a wheelbarrow...and create an enormous target on the back of the transporter. With the exception of the stock to flow ratio (which will flip in Bitcoin's favor soon), Bitcoin is superior to gold by all metrics covered.

Breaking down Venezuela conundrum; http://blogs.reuters.com/felix-salmon/2011/08/23/how-to-get-12-billion-of-gold-to-venezuela/
“The last (and only) known case of this kind of quantity of gold being transported across state lines took place almost exactly 75 years ago, in 1936, when the government of Spain removed 560 tons of gold from Madrid to Moscow as the armies of Francisco Franco approached. Most of the gold was exchanged for Russian weaponry, with the Soviet Union keeping 2.1% of the funds in the form of commissions and brokerage, and an additional 1.2% in the form of transport, deposit, melting, and refining expenses.”
“Venezuela would need to transport the gold in several trips, traders said, since the high value of gold means it would be impossible to insure a single aircraft carrying 211 tonnes. It could take about 40 shipments to move the gold back to Caracas, traders estimated. “It’s going to be quite a task. Logistically, I’m not sure if the central bank realises the magnitude of the task ahead of them,” said one senior gold banker.”
“So maybe Chávez intends to take matters into his own hands, and just sail the booty back to Venezuela on one of his own naval ships. Again, the theft risk is obvious — seamen can be greedy too — and this time there would be no insurance. Chávez is pretty crazy, but I don’t think he’d risk $12 billion that way.”
“Which leaves one final alternative. Gold is fungible, and people are actually willing to pay a premium to buy gold which is sitting in the Bank of England’s ultra-secure vaults. So why bother transporting that gold at all? Venezuela could enter into an intercontinental repo transaction, where it sells its gold in the Bank of England to some counterparty, and then promises to buy it all back at a modest discount, on condition that it’s physically delivered to the Venezuelan central bank in Caracas. It would then be up to the counterparty to work out how to get 211 tons of gold to Caracas by a certain date. That gold could be sourced anywhere in the world, and transported in any conceivable manner — being much less predictable and transparent, those shipments would also be much harder to hijack. How much of a discount would a counterparty require to enter into this kind of transaction? Much more than 3.3%, is my guess. And again, it’s not entirely clear who would even be willing to entertain the idea. Glencore, perhaps?”
“But here’s one last idea: why doesn’t Chávez crowdsource the problem? He could simply open a gold window at the Banco Central de Venezuela, where anybody at all could deliver standard gold bars. In return, the central bank would transfer to that person an equal number of gold bars in the custody of the Bank of England, plus a modest bounty of say 2% — that’s over $15,000 per 400-ounce bar, at current rates. It would take a little while, but eventually the gold would start trickling in: if you’re willing to pay a constant premium of 2% over the market price for a good, you can be sure that the good in question will ultimately find its way to your door. And the 2% cost of acquiring all that gold would surely be much lower than the cost of insuring and shipping it from England. It would be an elegant market-based solution to an artificial and ideologically-driven problem; I daresay Chávez might even chuckle at the irony of it. He’d just need to watch out for a rise in Andean banditry, as thieves tried to steal the bars on their disparate journeys into Venezuela.”

Law for the digital transformation of the financial system in Spain is approved

The approval of this bill by the Spanish Congress is a significant step in the nation's advance towards development and digital transformation. With this project, Spain will have a “regulatory sandbox” that will allow the implementation and supervision of new projects and technologies within the financial system in a controlled environment. This means that companies in Spain will be able to experiment and test with Bitcoin, other cryptocurrencies and other crypto assets.
I can't wait for this law to be approved in my country, currently Venezuela is in the top 3 countries that carry out the most transactions with cryptocurrencies.

Why AMP is a threat to the Open Web

What is AMP?
AMP is an open-source web component framework developed by the AMP Open Source Project, first announced by Google in 2015 as a reaction to Facebook’s Instant Articles and Apple News. While it was originally aimed at accelerating mobile pages (hence AMP), it’s now a much broader project aimed at improving the UX of websites, stories, ads and mail. The AMP framework consists of three components: AMP HTML, which is standard HTML markup with web components; AMP JavaScript, which manages resource loading; and AMP caches, which serves and validates AMP pages.
In plain English: AMP is Google’s attempt at making pages (and more) faster. They did a good job, pages built with the AMP framework will normally load faster. However, as this article explains, you won’t notice much of a difference unless the AMP library is served using the AMP cache, but more on that later.
The controversies with cached AMP pages
The AMP format is itself not much of a problem. In fact, we should applaud search engines that give ranking preference to fast-loading pages like AMP, but four aspects of its implementation are flawed:
  1. Google mobile Search’s Top Stories carousel has a premium position above of all other results, which is only accessible for AMP pages. These pages have to use a technology that was build and maintained mostly by Google (of the top 10 contributors to the AMP project on GitHub, 9 are Google employees), are then served by Google from their infrastructure and placed within a Google controlled user experience. And since this carousel generates a lot of clicks and revenue, publishers are left no choice but to embrace AMP. This has the effect of further reinforcing Google’s dominance of the Web. Fortunately, Google has announced that it's working on opening up the Top Stories carousel to non-AMP pages in 2021.
  2. The biggest performance boost doesn’t come from the AMP framework, but from preloading the page. It begs the question: Should preloading really be exclusive to AMP? They could introduce a way for publishers to allow or disallow preloading and if Google sees fit, they could preload those pages too, alongside AMP.
  3. When a user navigates from Google to a piece of content Google has recommended (or when a user clicks on a shared cached AMP link), they are, unwittingly, remaining within Google’s ecosystem and the publisher’s domain is obscured by the google.com/amp prefix. To work around this Google introduced Signed HTTP Exchanges ([Draft], [1], [2]), a web-standard that allows the browser to display the original site's URL, instead of the actual one (the one with the google.com/prefix). This would solve the original issue, but while doing so it introduced new ones (e.g. it obfuscates the fact that they're delivering the AMP page you're visiting). Interestingly enough, Google's Chrome already has support for this technology, but parties not involved with AMP are not so enthusiastic: Mozilla has deemed it a harmful web standard [2], and Apple has taken a similar stance.
  4. Google’s entire business model is about collecting as much personal data as possible, AMP is just another tool to do so. As described in Google’s Support article:
“When you use the Google AMP Viewer, Google and the publisher that made the AMP page may each collect data about you.”
The controversies with non-cached AMP pages
To be clear, the above flaws are only with AMP pages cached by Google (or another party like Bing or Cloudflare) but there are also plenty of pages simply utilizing the AMP framework, recognized by URLs such as bbc.com/news/amp/. However, these are also problematic, mainly because there's only a small performance improvement when AMP pages aren't cached and AMP pages tend to be less feature-rich and less diverse than their originals. And in some edge cases, it breaks stuff.
One could argue that the more popular the AMP framework becomes, the more AMP threatens the open web. That said, it should be clear that the biggest problem lies with the cached AMP pages.
AMP is open source, but that doesn't make it holy. Or as Ferdy Christant puts it quite nicely in his blog:
Google’s main defense is that AMP is open source. Which isn’t just a weak defense, it’s no defense at all. I can open source a plan for genocide. The term “open source” is meaningless if the thing that is open source is harmful.
Just so we’re clear, I’m not claiming Google or the AMP project is evil (hell, they might even have good intentions!), but the fact is that AMP and it's implementation have some major flaws that threaten the Open Web. And as long as that's the case, AmputatorBot will be there to remove AMP from your URLs.

Proposal for a marketing campaign which I think would be really cost efficient

First, sorry in advance for all the grammatical errors, English is not my native language. To give my silly username a bit of reputability, I have a masters in marketing and economics and 15+ years business experience.
I've read a few suggestions about the marketing approach on Reddit and here is my take.

"Making videos about NANO and showing its strengths"
I like it in general, but in the end that video will become an AD and ADs always have this fishy scent which users generally don't really like. NANO videos are a cool way to introduce new users to NANO, but I'm not sure if it's cost efficient enough. Myself, I always close ADs because I don't know if it's legit or scam. If I'm an average internet user who isn't into cryptos and I start watching that AD it would most likely sound like Venmo/Paypal to me (especially if this AD was played on the market that has a functioning economy), I don't think I would fully grasp the decentralization advantage of NANO and would end up closing the AD while we as advertisers would end up paying for nothing.

"Litecoin's approach"
Some say that we need Litecoin type of marketing (UFC octagon sticker + NFL clubs accepting Litecoin). While it would be cool to have any type of marketing, I don't think that this type of marketing is financially efficient and we have to be VERY financially efficient because we do not have a treasury fund and we have to rely on our donations which have already proven to be a problem for us. If you check Litecoin's daily confirmed transaction number you will notice that UFC campaign which was few months ago haven't done much if anything at all when it comes to daily transactions number: https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/litecoin-transactions.html
This type of marketing is expensive and it's not really building the usage of Litecoin since other types of payments work just fine in the USA. Think about going to UFC event and seeing that Litecoin sticker, it has just a subliminal impact (brand awareness building) on people seeing it, but none of those users or a very few will buy Litecoin because of that sticker and even less will use Litecoin in western market after buying it.
With NFL club accepting Litecoin, the same thing, no one or a very few people will buy Litecoin because now you can pay your NFL game ticket with Litecoin. Why making that additional step of buying LTC with fiat to spend it when you can just spend fiat using credit cards which work just fine?!

WHAT I THINK IS WAY MORE EFFICIENT APPROACH AND WHY
My suggestion is that we need to go after daily confirmed transactions numbereal usage of NANO/real world adoption which also means more BUYING PRESSURE on the free market, more demand. Here is how I think we will be the most efficient at it.

First of all I think we need to focus on remittances market in poor country, there is a real usecase for NANO, a real need compared to Litecoin campaign in USA which doesn't really boost usage because no one needs Litecoin at the moment (maybe if USD collapses it will be another story).

Lets use Venezuela for example. The situation there is so bad that people are starving to death. They've literally killed and ate zoo animals a long time ago and now many are eating rotten meat leftovers out of trash cans to survive (yes, it's that bad, check on the Youtube for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MGbyLUCw5k).

Average monthly salary is around 10$ while you need 100$ to survive the month. Many Venezuelans depend on their friends and family members outside of Venezuela who are sending them money to survive. From what I read, most money to Venezuela comes from Colombia and Spain (please correct me if I'm wrong) and since most of them cannot use banks the new remittances business model emerged in Venezuela. Users on social networks who have money and bank accounts in two (Venezuela + Colombia for example) or more countries have started their remittances business offering a remittances service for a FEE. Here is where NANO comes into play to skip this fee and to skip the need to meet with a stranger!
To read more about remittances market in Venezuela, here is the recent answer from Venezuelan itself https://www.reddit.com/btc/comments/cb7qw1/ama_destroying_myths_about_the_use_of/etdpvza/

OK, REMITTANCES IN VENEZUELA, HOW?
As we already figured out, because of economic disaster life is cheap in Venezuela, with 100$ we can feed a person 1 month meaning that also you can get a cheap marketing

Let's target Venezuelans with big social media reach (hundreds of thousands of followers or even millions), make deals with them through NANO center and by using our Venezuelan trusted member and pay them out to do a 4 video campaign (as a package) which would include:
- video of them explaining basic stuff about NANO
- video of them explaining why remittances with NANO (no fee, no intermediary)
- video of them showing the whole remittances process (their friend or relative buying NANO with CC and influencers receiving that NANO within seconds to their phone wallet)
- video of them spending the NANO to buy groceries (I'm sure one of the shops accepting DASH/BTC which are mostly used in Venezuela today will be happy to accept NANO as well)

My guess is that with this approach, we would get many users who would contact their friends and relatives outside Venezuela and ask them to start using NANO for remittances simply because it makes sense and it's more efficient than any other way.

WHY INFLUENCERS AND NOT ADS?

Trust
- As I've already mentioned above, when I see the AD I simply close it and I guess many of you do the same simply because I don't know if it's a scam or not. Influencers have followers who TRUST them which is really important.
Cost efficiency
- I think the ADs are no match to the potential reach we would be getting through influencers for the same amount of money which of course depends on the negotiated price we would be paying for the campaigns.

WHAT'S NEEDED TO START THIS KIND OF CAMPAIGN

1) Reputable intermediary between the community and groundwork deal executor
- Ideally this campaign would go through NANO center which has the reputability to collect our donations.

2) Person from Venezuela
...who is willing to be our extended hand and make us a deal with the influencers. Once the donations are collected NANO center would connect with a NANO member in Venezuela who could then contact suitable influencers and setup the deal. Ideally we would already have a Venezuelan who is a member of NANO center, do we?!

3) Money
How much would this cost? Honestly I have no idea, we would have to ask to find out, but as the situation there is so bad I think the price would be really cost effective to us considering we would be getting REAL ADOPTION which is maybe the biggest NANO's problem at the moment. There is quite a lot of work required from an influencer to do, from recording, video editing to going across the town to spend NANO. We need to be aware of that when negotiating the fair price with influencer. Also we need to pay our Venezuelan connection who would be doing deals with influencers.

4) Scripts
- We would need to create the script for those 4 videos and outline exactly what we want to happen in those videos

5) Influencers
- Research and find potential influencers

6) Metrics
- Along with comments/and likes bellow the campaigned videos, confirmed daily transactions on NANO block lattice type of metric to show us if the campaigns are successful or not would be really helpful. Looks like we don't have it at the moment, the closest is https://nano-faucet.org/stats/ which I find too confusing for my average brain. I know this metric is not the most precise one due to spam but spam usually creates spikes and what we would be looking for is a long term trend line something like red line in this Bitcoin example: http://prntscr.com/oe933nThis is not essential for this campaign, but if someone could build this it would be useful for NANO in general as well.

COULD WE GET SCAMMED?
Yes unfortunately, but we can take a careful approach using milestone payments. Having a really trustworthy Venezuelan connection is the key IMO.

When it comes to influencers, to mitigate a risk of getting scammed we can pay the influencers after every video instead of all at once. Also, our Venezuelan connection will have to explain to the influencer that there is a huge community behind this idea and that they can expect many more campaigns to follow if the first one proves itself to be a success which should help with not getting scammed.

WHAT IS THE END GOAL?

Usage of NANO, adoption!
- Every remittances transaction will create a few more transactions
1 - buy NANO with fiat
2 - send it to Venezuelan friend/relative
3 - Venezuelans spends it to buy food
4 - merchant will eventually have to sell NANO to get more supply or IDEALLY he/we could close the whole circle and find a supplier who would accept NANO himself or some merchants (who can) would be start saving money in NANO due to it's deflationary property.

On top of that people would continue to use it on and on in the future simply because it's the most effective way. Remember that with higher transaction numbers you will eventually get more exposure to media and other users and a bigger value of the network itself. Don't forget, NANO foundation lives from NANO and we need a good NANO price for the team to continue making great updates to the protocol. Also bigger NANO price in USD = more campaigns that we will be able to fund in the future while spending the same amount of NANO.

If this method really is the most cost effective for users I really don't see a reason why those first users who came out of watching influencers videos wouldn't recommend their friends to do the same process for remittances!

Merchants
- If we would be able to get this rolling, many Venezuelans would end up having NANO on their mobile phones, looking where to spend it. They would approach grocery stores and ask to pay with NANO and eventually get us merchants through a simple market demand mechanism. DASH and BTC are mostly used in Venezuela today and we need to thank them for doing the hard work for us introducing merchants to cryptos and having them more likely to accept the more superior payment protocol, NANO.

NEXT STEPS

1) Feedback
I put some thoughts and time into writing this (as I should for holding a lot of NANO), I'll leave it here and first and most important if your feedback because if NANO community in general doesn't like this idea, then it makes no sense to proceed with it since it won't be getting enough funding. With your feedback we can also improve this proposal.

2) NANO center approval + Venezuelan groundworker
If the community likes the idea and the feedback is good we can see what folks from NANO center have to say about it, and to see if we even have a trustworthy Venezuelan member who is willing to make this proposal into a reality.

3) Detailed scripts for videos
- I've mentioned 4 important short videos that I think are all needed for 1 successful campaign so that we offer the followers of those influencers the whole package explaining the whole process and answering "Why NANO?" through those videos (of course his can change if you guys give better idea of what we need from the influencer). Scripts need to be detailed with time stamps explaining exactly what we want inside the videos. If we have a green light from first 2 steps I will start this script building process through Google documents and invite you guys to help me build those.

4) Finding and choosing influencers We can create a topic to find the most suitable influencers in Venezuela, Venezuelan members needs to help us with this!

5) Donations With the community and NANO center behind this proposal, Venezuelan connection ready to do it and scripts ready for the influencers the next step would be to reach into our wallets and donate enough money to be able to fund out first deal.

6) Negotiations, budget building Once the donations start dripping into NANO center's wallet our Venezuelan connection can start reaching out to the chosen influencers and see what's doable with our budget and proceed from there.

7) First campaign Do our first campaign, evaluate it and see if it was cost efficient enough and if yes, improve the whole concept from the experience that we will get from the first campaign and proceed scaling further.

To show that I'm serious about this proposal, I promise to donate the first 100 NANO to this campaign if the NANO center gives us a green light for this proposal. Without NANo center's green light, I think this proposal doesn't have much chances of success.

Totally agree with the NANO team that we need to tackle developing countries, but let's learn from DASH mistakes and let's brainstorm together!

Why developing countries?
I'm living in Ireland at the moment and here NANO is not really needed for daily transactions, Visa works just fine even tho NANO merchants all over the place would be ideal and I hope it happens one day. The only use case for NANO here would be a store of value because of it's deflationary properties, and it's something that no government can't stop or manipulate unlike fiat.
In Venezuela you have a real use case. If a person from Spain could buy NANO in Spain for a minimal fee, send that same NANO to his relative in Venezuela and this relative could spend the same value in the grocery shop minute later, this is a pure magic for them! They would skip so much lost value over the fees! I'm using Venezuela as an example in this post, but any developing country, especially the ones with troubling economies would work such as Argentina, Turkey, Iran, Colombia...

Liquidity first
DASH has monetary inflation and a treasury system which makes it useful to fund campaigns. They have funded many campaigns in Venezuela and managed to get to 2500 merchants accepting DASH. But, still they have very few daily transactions in Venezuela because there is no liquidity, people don't have money to buy DASH and spend it with merchants. Liquidity needs to kick in first and then market is naturally gonna develop further. People will come with their NANO's and ask merchants to pay with NANO which will get us merchants adoption. We can take advantage of all the hard work that DASH has done to introduce masses with digital currency and start implementing NANO pos terminals all over the place once the liquidity is there.

Liquidity, how?
Average Venezuelan is earning around 10$ per month while he needs 150$ to survive.
  1. We need to give them jobs and pay their salaries in NANO's. Or even better, convince and support (with fiat gateway) big business with many employees to start paying salaries in NANO. Since Venezuelans need only around 100$-200$ to survive the month you can get a cheap workers for teaching Spanish online one on one for example and create a business around it just to name one possible job that would push liquidity into Venezuela.
  2. Remittances. At the moment many Venezuelans have someone around the world who is helping them survive by sending them 100$-200$ a month. Remittances is a hard work since you cannot partner with WU for example since it would completely obliterate WU from the market so you need to find other ways. I see DASH is going from person to person for remittances.

Cost
Cost of penetrating a country and getting a mass adoption won't be cheap. DASH is having a full on support team which you can call for help if you're having trouble with DASH, they have billboards all over the place, radio and TV presence and ground work teams organizing big meetups. We as a large community will have to start donating a lot if we want success. Last campaign in Venezuela requested around 5000$ if I'm not mistaking. We had hard time collecting that much, it took something like 2-3 weeks which is not the best result.
I hope we can overcome a lot of those expensive events simply by NANO team making a good business connections with big businesses to provide Venezuelans with liquidity.

Reward
Bitcoin has around 400 000 transactions a day, Ethereum around 900 000, Litecoin around 35 000, Dash around 15 000...Getting mass adoption in a country like Venezuela would mean hundreds of thousands of transactions a day, just think about what would that do to NANO price!

I hope with this topic we can get some good ideas and help the NANO team with the directions for the upcoming marketing campaigns (after v19 or v20?!).

[AMA] Randy Brito here from BitcoinVenezuela.com, what we’ve been doing and why we might need your help

Hello all here, I am Randy Brito (aka @btcven), a Venezuelan whose family moved to Spain in 2004 due to the worsening situation and persecution on the middle class.
I learned about Bitcoin in 2011 and read a lot about it here and at Bitcointalk.org (and learned about Libertarianism too through it), in 2012 founded https://www.BitcoinVenezuela.com as a non-profit organization dedicated to educate about Bitcoin and basic economics.
Started collaborating with Electrum developers, translated it into Spanish (along with Hive Wallet, MacWallet, and some others). At Electrum also helped as manager of translations, website, social media, support.
Co-founded another local non-profit education group in Spain and gave talks about Bitcoin around the country, mostly in high schools to get the young people started before they even learned how to use a bank account. Also co-founded a Classic Liberal - Anarchocapitalist group in Seville, Spain where I was part of the team which hosted the Free Market Road Show three years in a row.
In 2014 joined Support at Coinbase as one of the two first employees outside the US, when it was still only serving US customers, and worked there for 3.5 years. Joined MetaMask-ConsenSys a few months ago as Customer Support.
Tried to open a Bitcoin<->Bolivar exchange between 2014-2015, we got stopped and the other local exchange there got shut down completely.
I’ve been educating about Bitcoin in Venezuela since 2012, in our website, in social media, with collaborators in the country who gave talks, supporting local groups teaching about Bitcoin there, running campaigns, giving interviews, podcasts. Besides trying to educate about economics, fighting Socialism both in Venezuela and Spain, and more.
For more than two years now I’ve been collecting donations in cryptocurrencies through our humanitarian aid project 'Bitcoin For Venezuela Initiative' to help feed people, buy medicines and help those in need. We started doing a monthly activity to cook food for 400-500 people. Today we help feed 2000+ people daily, by buying food for a soup kitchen where 1600+ people go to eat daily, probably the only meal they have in a whole day. Also cook meals for two orphanages, an elderly center, a kids hospital, and an old people’s hospital. This is the last activity we did: https://twitter.com/btcven/status/1028743266739662849?s=21
We are now also helping another soup kitchen and an elderly center in a small town, and also managing donations to restore a farm school, so it can produce food again for the towns around it, and also teach young people to work in the farm. Donations come mostly from private donators giving us cryptocurrencies, not many donations come from our public addresses (we take Bitcoin Lightning Network donations too!) because we keep most of the pictures and videos taken private because of the persecution in the country of those who do humanitarian aid, and for the safety of collaborators on the ground.
For the past months I’ve been working on speeding up Bitcoin adoption in Venezuela ( checkout these 4 tweets https://twitter.com/randybrito/status/1023679503862824962?s=21 ) through a few steps:
This project-effort is called Locha
https://twitter.com/Locha_io
We need your help and support to make this happen.
Ask Me Anything :)

Bitcoin Cash Fund - Monthly Report 02.02.18

Bitcoin Cash Fund - Monthly Report 02.02.18

At the end of every month I will be writing an update on the Bitcoin Cash Fund to keep everyone up-to-date on what has been going on. This will include Active Projects, Complete Projects, Bitcoin Cash Meetups, Skills Sought, and BCF Organisation updates.

If you don't know what the BCF (Bitcoin Cash Fund) is go check out our website at thebitcoincash.fund or come and talk to us in our community chat at chat.thebitcoincash.fund.

ACTIVE PROJECTS

Bitcoin Cash Treasure Hunt
What's more exciting than a little treasure hunt? The Bitcoin Cash treasure hunt initiative is underway as we speak. Members of the community will be able to design a unique paper wallet for the worldwide scavenger hunt. The wallet will have instructions designed to give beginners some background information about Bitcoin Cash, and a link to "https://findbitcoin.cash," which will have instructions on how they can claim their funds. The site will serve a multitude of purposes.
Firstly, it will host a map, where community members can hide wallets and provide geo-mapped clues as to where they are.
Secondly, a resource for beginners to learn some basics of Bitcoin Cash. Lastly, it will provide links to resources in the community to expand their knowledge about the Bitcoin Cash ecosystem! We anticipate the site to be up and running in full functionality by the time next weeks update comes out.
This project is expected to launch next week.

SeatacBCH
The goal of the SeatacBCH project is to prepare, deploy, and build a ground-based grassroots movement in the Seatac area of the U.S.A. to promote the acceptance of Bitcoin Cash at local businesses.
The project is just waiting on the completion of a new POS service.

BarberAd
George and his son, Andy are at the barbershop, when George suddenly remembers he left his wallet at home. Luckily, Andy has some Bitcoin Cash and sends his dad some. George then tips his barber, and pays for both their haircuts. There will also be humorous elements within the script. 2 different edits - One 30 second, and a 1:30 edit.
The ad is now complete except for the few CG elements. Once these are complete the promotional video will be released.

BCHTuts (Bitcoin Cash Tutorials)
A series of 10 tutorials covering tools in the Bitcoin Cash ecosystem. Each will come as text and video. People who enjoy going at their own pace can read the written form and people who want to kick back can watch the video. Tutorials will be published on Yours.org and have a YouTube video embedded.
This project is in progress.

BitcoinCashJS?
Since Bitcoin Cash's launch in August, there is an ever-increasing need for a BCH-specific JavaScript development library. Currently, all businesses providing a service via a web interface that wish to support Bitcoin Cash or handle Bitcoin Cash transactions are forced to fork one of the existing Bitcoin libraries and apply the necessary changes to make the code BCH-compatible. This is a very error prone process, and increases friction for the development of new applications in the ecosystem.
BitcoinCash.js will be the first JavaScript development library which is 100% BCH-compatible out of the box, and will remain up-to-date with all future Bitcoin Cash upgrades, such as the upcoming new address format to be released in January. This will streamline the creation of new interesting user applications, reduce the surface for errors, and help push Bitcoin Cash into global adoption

Business Onboarding Info Pack
A project to put together an info pack to get businesses started with Bitcoin Cash. The current plan is to include a pamphlet, some Bitcoin Cash Accepted Here" stickers, some leaflets aimed at users for the business to have available at the point-of-sale, and a paper wallet with small amount of Bitcoin Cash to play with. These packs will then be provided at meetups, events and anyone who needs them for onboarding businesses.
The information pamphlet is complete and on order. The stickers are complete and on order. We now have the ability to use custom designs on cashaddress.org. We are now in the process of creating the leaflet for users. There was a hold up on this while we looked for a graphic designer.

BCH Netherlands Mini-Conference
A one day conference in Amsterdam. During this conference we will discuss Bitcoin Cash from a social, technical and commercial point of view. Speakers from companies such as BTC.COM, Lokad and the Bitcoin Cash Fund will give you a unique perspective of what is going on with the Bitcoin Cash crypto currency. The event will be held on the roof of the TQ building (TQ Club) in the heart of Amsterdam.
Interesting Talks by industry leaders including: - Remy - Introduction + Bitcoin Cash changes lives in Venezuela - Alejandro DeLaTorre (BTC.com) - What we need to do to make Bitcoin Cash successful - Justin Bons (Cyber Capital) - Bitcoin Cash; A store of value and the importance of it being a functional currency - Tobias Hoffmann (BTC.com) - A fork in the road: differences between Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash - Joannes Vermorel (Lokad) - The scalability challenges of Bitcoin Cash - Paul Wasensteiner (The Bitcoin Cash Fund) - The BCF and the Path to a Billion Users

High Quality Bitcoin Cash Ad
The concept is to create a high-quality Bitcoin Cash ad that is accessible to the masses and that we can use to heavily advertise Bitcoin Cash in video form (e.g. on youtube, vimeo, and social media). The ad would be similar in nature to this ad by Coca Cola. It would show people all around the world using Bitcoin Cash (and having a great life) in their every day lives.
The tagline would be 'Bitcoin Cash - For everyone'. The idea is to show that Bitcoin Cash is a currency that is accessible to save and spend and receive by anyone and everyone in the world, and that by doing so people gain access to the global economy.

Bitcoin Cash Documentary
A project to be produced simultaneously as the ad to maximise fund use.
The documentary would target two key concepts:
There would be a short motion graphic section in the documentary to explain the technical side of why/how Bitcoin Cash exists (e.g. block size, forks, on-chain scaling). This informational motion graphics section would also be suitable as a stand-alone video that can be used on social media to explain the situation.
We are now actively looking for people around the world who use Bitcoin Cash, and the ability to use it impact their lives. If this is you, or you know someone like this, please get in touch.

Project 1B
This project is a grand scheme to work towards on-boarding 1 billion people onto the Bitcoin Cash economy in developing countries.
The concept is to manufacture and sell $5 feature phones in large quantities in various developing countries, and have these devices partly subsidised by various parties including charities and mobile networks. These phones would have a simple user and merchant Bitcoin Cash app pre-installed and would be loaded with a few dollars worth of Bitcoin Cash. For example, the phone cost = $5 and the phone has $4 of Bitcoin Cash on it.
The apps will work with very low resources in a similar way to the wallets at yours.org.

Super Secret Website Project
We have a big website project we are working on internally (Not the BCF website). We will have some big updates on this over the coming month.

We are currently in the process of setting up many more exciting projects!

COMPLETE PROJECTS

TxHighway
Visualize the difference in speed and scalability by comparing Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Core's transactions using our highway themed blockchain visualizer. Unlock a bonus sprite with each donation back to the Bitcoin Cash Fund and monitor your address.
This project executed with massive success! Soon we hope to be working with the amazing team that built this site to produce a new educational tool.

What Is Bitcoin Cash?
This is an internal BCF project to produce a video similar to the What is Bitcoin? video, but remade for Bitcoin Cash. The voiceover for the video is the amazing Kevan Brighting who did the voiceover for the award winning game Stanley Parable. The video will be roughly 1:30 minutes long and should be completed within 2-3 weeks.
Work has started on the translations to Chinese, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, and French. This should take another week or so.

Bitcoin Cash Sound Branding
Internal BCF project to produce a branded sound for Bitcoin Cash payments. This sound would be used industry wide in apps when a bitcoin cash payment is sent or received. This sound would also be used in promotional video material to reinforce the brand. This sound would have a similar psychological effect as the macbook powering-on sound.
This is now complete and can be heard at the end of the new 'What is Bitcoin Cash?' video.
Please reach out to all the wallets that use Bitcoin Cash and show your support for the BCH sound branding.

Global Bitcoin Cash Meetups
There is now a total of at least 34 Bitcoin Cash

The BCF will be sponsoring all these meetups and providing support to the organisers. It is amazing to see how rapidly they are popping up all over the globe!
If you live in a major city and would like to start hosting Bitcoin Cash meetups, get in contact with us. Reach out to our official twitter account dedicated to coordinating with meetups @BCFmeetups!

If you don't have any of these skills, that doesn't mean we don't need your help. There are lots of other things that projects need help with (i.e. sending out stickers, handing out leaflets, writing education content etc.).

If anyone has any questions feel free to post them below and I will try to answer any that you have.

I attended an "Investment Opportunity in Cryptocurrency" in Venezuela in my little town <200k population.

I attended an
TL;DR "Trading company" that turned out to be a MLM/Pyramid Scheme visits little town in Venezuela and scams the hell out of it, people can't get their funds out. only if they use their ICO. I got cookies out of it

Hi!, my name is Victor and I'm from Venezuela, my dad knows that I'm into technology in general, so when a friend from his work invited him to the next "big thing in Cryptocurrency" and that he cannot "miss out in this big business opportunity" A couple of flags were raised, but I decided to go with him.

Enter "Forcount", the meeting was in the city's country club with over 100+ people, a couple of close friends were there, I was immediately congratulated because I was not missing out on the next big thing in Crypto, even bigger flags were raised, I told my dad
$Victor -Watch this being this big ass pyramid scheme
$Dad -I don't think so, Mr. BigBucks, and Ms.ChainOwner is here.

And he was right, well-off people were there, people with money, shop owners, dealership owners, people from wealthy families, so I was a little suspicious about that, anyways I went a took sit while my dad was talking with the girl that invited him, he came back I asked what she said.
$Victor -So, what did she said to you? something along the lines that you will love this, and cannot miss this business opportunity?
$Dad -Yeah pretty much that.
$Victor -This is going to be a big ass pyramid.
$Dad -Probably, listen, the presentation is starting.
So then he came, this "Black diamond rank" guy from Costa Rica, to give us the presentation, he started by cheering everyone up telling a couple jokes and give a round of applause to this guy from our city because he just reached the "Emerald" ranking.
The presentation began, he started talking about how no believed in the internet and in social media, how companies were going bankrupt because they were stuck in their old ways. bla bla bla, yada yada yada, everything about that was true. he talked about how if you invested in apple x years ago you should have been richer you can imagine, but no-one believed in Steve Jobs, because he was this crazy tech guy with crazy ideas, and then... he said, let me present your next opportunity to be rich af boi and how to have a rich guy mentality.
Introducing "Forcount"
He began talking about this company that started in 2015 (even tho the domain was registered in 2017) specialized in "cryptocurrency trading" Big quotes here, he said that the company has the best traders in the world and how can they work for you, using their investment plans!. He then gave a brief intro to cryptocurrency (Litecoin) how can you be your bank yada yada...
and then oh boy, he began explaining the investment plans, how Litecoin used to be worh $3 and had an ATH of $100 and how in december it was expected to go over $1000.

https://preview.redd.it/lw7sbswwjkv11.png?width=884&format=png&auto=webp&s=72bde7c0260e6a1966adb76a3afebcc20583e898
So the investments plans are pretty much an "interest rate" from 0.01% to 3% from the profits made by their world-class traders make on your investment.
IT BEGINS

https://preview.redd.it/3rr186yxjkv11.png?width=880&format=png&auto=webp&s=d8b67c3fa54bc13b638903b09f3f903b6c154a6c
and how if you do a direct referral to someone you make from 5% to 10% on their investment
My dad and I started cracking up internally... and then this slide came on.
oh boy...

https://preview.redd.it/kxjlq01zjkv11.png?width=881&format=png&auto=webp&s=eb3bc565d2dc917ee7b643304d9efa1f3254fecd
That's your "NETWORK", and it works depending on your initial investment, and how your right or left "NETWORK" is doing. I'm not going get into detail because it was confusing af.
Oh and the ICO, THEY FUCKING HAVE AN ICO. It's called Mindex Coin and it was going to be the next Bitcoin. and guess what. ALL YOUR PROFITS WILL BE PAID IN THIS MINDEXCOIN (MIC)
They have other investment plans like renting mining rigs and other stuff, oh and of course they have a ranking system.

https://preview.redd.it/dd2lg720kkv11.png?width=879&format=png&auto=webp&s=9820f863e02b39407371fe177d38339c13e3866f
and you get bonuses, ofc for reaching this the company pays you extra.

https://preview.redd.it/gk2le9u0kkv11.png?width=879&format=png&auto=webp&s=87374aaa63f66920c0058ca97ba5bdbebae0d00b
example Black Diamond, they give a $10.000 extra enough to pay the lease of a rolls and a mansion.

The presentation ended, people were hyped af. I talked out my friends out of that shit, they gave away cookies and tea for all attendess (Cookies were 10/10 the only good thing to come out of that reunion.
THE AFTERMATH
I started working with a friend giving people basic courses about crypto (what's a wallet how to use it, what's a whitepaper) and in the course there were a couple attendees that invested in ShitCount, I showed them John Oliver video on MLMs and they told me they want to get their Litecoins and DASH out of that shit. and surprise surprise, you cannot withdraw your funds, only after 3 months and you can only withdraw the profits made with your investment, boy they were pissed.
A couple weeks pass by and news came, the Puerto Rican Black diamond was leaving the company, the Emerald local guy is under fire from everyone because they can't withdraw funds and is now exit scamming to Spain.
And now everytime that I talk about someone about Crypto they think is about that forcount shit because everyone thinks I want to recruit them to my "network".
on the plus side, a lot more people are interested in crypto general and informing themselves about it. Here's a pic from the last course we taught!.
Sorry for the long read.

Bitcoin Cash Fund - Weekly Report 12.01.18

Bitcoin Cash Fund - Weekly Report 12.01.18

Every Friday I will be writing an update on the Bitcoin Cash Fund to keep everyone up-to-date on what has been going on.

SeatacBCH
The goal of the SeatacBCH project is to prepare, deploy, and build a ground-based grassroots movement in the Seatac area of the U.S.A. to promote the acceptance of Bitcoin Cash at local businesses.

BitcoinCashJS

The information pamphlet is complete. The stickers are complete. We are now in the process of creating the leaflet for users, and creating a way of generating many paper wallets with a custom design.

This is now complete. We will be releasing this soon and are working with the wallet teams to have this implemented in all wallets that support Bitcoin Cash.

Global Bitcoin Cash Meetups
There is now a total of at least 31 Bitcoin Cash

The BCF will be sponsoring all these meetups and providing support to the organisers. It is amazing to see how rapidly they are popping up all over the globe!
If you live in a major city and would like to start hosting Bitcoin Cash meetups, get in contact with us. Reach out to our official twitter account dedicated to coordinating with meetups @BCFmeetups!

BCF ORGANISATION

We have been working on building out our team this past few weeks. We are now a team of 6 people and are making sure we grow at a pace that allows us to spend all funds we receive as effectively as possible.

New Team Members:
Monica - Event Coordinator.
Monica will be dedicated to managing our work with various events. She will be coordinating with all meetups and conferences that we are partnering with and you can contact her at @BCFmeetups on twitter or in the BCF chat with @monica.

Forrest - Marketing Manager.
Forrest is dedicated to handling the marketing side of our operations, and you should start seeing some Bitcoin Cash ads popping up in various places soon. If you ever need to get in contact with us about marketing opportunities, come and speak to us in the BCF chat.

Aron - Business Development Manager.
We decided that it would be a good strategy to hire a talented sales person for reaching out and onboarding as many businesses as possible to Bitcoin Cash. Aron has already been very successful in doing this and the response has been overwhelmingly positive from businesses. If you ever need to contact him about any potential leads you have that could help us, his reddit handle is u/CreativeName44 and his twitter account is @creativename4. If you are a business that is interested in accepting Bitcoin Cash, get in contact with him, as there are ways we can support your business.

George - Public Relations Manager.
George has been amazing in helping us manage our community outreach since very early on, so we felt it was a no-brainer to make him an official team member of the BCF. He is helping us communicate effectively with the ever expanding Bitcoin Cash community.

? - Graphic Designer.
We are currently looking to hire a graphic designer. If you are highly skilled in graphic design and are a big supporter of Bitcoin Cash, get in contact with me so we can chat.

We are currently in discussion with an experienced team to handle our merchandise shop, and we are looking to open this in February. You will be able to buy all sorts of Bitcoin Cash swag from us as soon as this launches, and you will be helping the Bitcoin Cash Fund at the same time. Everybody wins! We will be sure to keep you all posted on this.

Based on feedback we have received from the community, we are working on streamlining the process of proposing projects to us, so that it requires as little effort as possible. For now please just come and talk to us about the projects at chat.thebitcoincash.fund and we will guide you through the process.

Financial Transparency

We fully understand that as an organisation we need to be fully transparent about what we are doing, especially in the area of finances. We intend to have something more graphically presentable on our website once the second phase of development is complete, but for now you can see a list of all transactions we have made from the BCF donation address. You can also see this in this SPREADSHEET.

Our spending so far is:
  • November - $3,639
  • December - $8,299
  • January - $4,222

The balance of our funding is:
71.57477569 BCH

This will increase now that we have a larger team and are able to spend funds more effectively.

VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT

  • Project Managers,
  • Web devs,
  • Graphic Design,
  • Marketing,
  • Sales,
  • Writing,
  • Business Onboarding,
  • Social media,
  • Translation,
  • Videography,
  • Audio,
  • Music,
  • Motion Graphics,

We need people with skills like this to volunteer some of their time for projects to bring awareness and adoption of Bitcoin Cash. If this is you get in contact with me, or come and talk to us at chat.thebitcoincash.fund. We can also budget some amount of funds for work, but priority will be given to people willing to do at least partially volunteer their time.
If you don't have any of these skills, that doesn't mean we don't need your help. There are lots of other things that projects need help with (i.e. sending out stickers, handing out leaflets, writing education content etc.).

If anyone has any questions feel free to post them below and I will try to answer any that you have.

Bitcoin Cash Fund - Weekly Report 19.01.18

Every Friday I will be writing an update on the Bitcoin Cash Fund to keep everyone up-to-date on what has been going on.

SeatacBCH
The goal of the SeatacBCH project is to prepare, deploy, and build a ground-based grassroots movement in the Seatac area of the U.S.A. to promote the acceptance of Bitcoin Cash at local businesses.
The project is just waiting on the completion of a new POS service.

What Is Bitcoin Cash
This is an internal BCF project to produce a video similar to the What is Bitcoin? video, but remade for Bitcoin Cash. The voiceover for the video is the amazing Kevan Brighting who did the voiceover for the award winning game Stanley Parable. The video will be roughly 1:30 minutes long and should be completed within 2-3 weeks.
This video is now complete, and we are aiming to release either today or over the weekend. Work has started on the translations to Chinese, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, and French. This should take another week or so.

This sound would also be used in promotional video material to reinforce the brand. This sound would have a similar psychological effect as the macbook powering-on sound.
This is now complete. We will be releasing this soon and are working with the wallet teams to have this implemented in all wallets that support Bitcoin Cash.

More information on this will be released soon.
Interesting Talks by industry leaders including:

We are now actively looking for people around the world who use Bitcoin Cash, and the ability to use it impact their lives. If this is you, or you know someone like this, please get in touch.

We are now a team of 7 people (Soon to be 8) and are making sure we grow at a pace that allows us to spend all funds we receive as effectively as possible.

New Team Members:

Cláudio - Translation Coordinator.
Cláudio will be helping us make sure all of our communication is being translated to key languages so that we reach as many people as possible. The BCF is not a global organisation, and that means we need to do better at making sure we reach as many people as we can. This is certainly a challenge, but it is extremely important in achieving our goal of reaching 1 billion people within 5 years. Most of the people who need Bitcoin Cash the most, do not speak English.

We are still in discussions with an experienced team to handle our merchandise shop, and we are looking to open this in February.

We should have something to release to improve this next week.

  • January - $5,340

The balance of our funding is: 70.82489590 BCH
