Gridcoin 5.0.0.0-Mandatory "Fern" Release

Finally! After over ten months of development and testing, "Fern" has arrived! This is a whopper. 240 pull requests merged. Essentially a complete rewrite that was started with the scraper (the "neural net" rewrite) in "Denise" has now been completed. Practically the ENTIRE Gridcoin specific codebase resting on top of the vanilla Bitcoin/Peercoin/Blackcoin vanilla PoS code has been rewritten. This removes the team requirement at last (see below), although there are many other important improvements besides that.
Fern was a monumental undertaking. We had to encode all of the old rules active for the v10 block protocol in new code and ensure that the new code was 100% compatible. This had to be done in such a way as to clear out all of the old spaghetti and ring-fence it with tightly controlled class implementations. We then wrote an entirely new, simplified ruleset for research rewards and reengineered contracts (which includes beacon management, polls, and voting) using properly classed code. The fundamentals of Gridcoin with this release are now on a very sound and maintainable footing, and the developers believe the codebase as updated here will serve as the fundamental basis for Gridcoin's future roadmap.
We have been testing this for MONTHS on testnet in various stages. The v10 (legacy) compatibility code has been running on testnet continuously as it was developed to ensure compatibility with existing nodes. During the last few months, we have done two private testnet forks and then the full public testnet testing for v11 code (the new protocol which is what Fern implements). The developers have also been running non-staking "sentinel" nodes on mainnet with this code to verify that the consensus rules are problem-free for the legacy compatibility code on the broader mainnet. We believe this amount of testing is going to result in a smooth rollout.
Given the amount of changes in Fern, I am presenting TWO changelogs below. One is high level, which summarizes the most significant changes in the protocol. The second changelog is the detailed one in the usual format, and gives you an inkling of the size of this release.

Highlights

Protocol

Note that the protocol changes will not become active until we cross the hard-fork transition height to v11, which has been set at 2053000. Given current average block spacing, this should happen around October 4, about one month from now.
Note that to get all of the beacons in the network on the new protocol, we are requiring ALL beacons to be validated. A two week (14 day) grace period is provided by the code, starting at the time of the transition height, for people currently holding a beacon to validate the beacon and prevent it from expiring. That means that EVERY CRUNCHER must advertise and validate their beacon AFTER the v11 transition (around Oct 4th) and BEFORE October 18th (or more precisely, 14 days from the actual date of the v11 transition). If you do not advertise and validate your beacon by this time, your beacon will expire and you will stop earning research rewards until you advertise and validate a new beacon. This process has been made much easier by a brand new beacon "wizard" that helps manage beacon advertisements and renewals. Once a beacon has been validated and is a v11 protocol beacon, the normal 180 day expiration rules apply. Note, however, that the 180 day expiration on research rewards has been removed with the Fern update. This means that while your beacon might expire after 180 days, your earned research rewards will be retained and can be claimed by advertising a beacon with the same CPID and going through the validation process again. In other words, you do not lose any earned research rewards if you do not stake a block within 180 days and keep your beacon up-to-date.
The transition height is also when the team requirement will be relaxed for the network.

GUI

Besides the beacon wizard, there are a number of improvements to the GUI, including new UI transaction types (and icons) for staking the superblock, sidestake sends, beacon advertisement, voting, poll creation, and transactions with a message. The main screen has been revamped with a better summary section, and better status icons. Several changes under the hood have improved GUI performance. And finally, the diagnostics have been revamped.

Blockchain

The wallet sync speed has been DRASTICALLY improved. A decent machine with a good network connection should be able to sync the entire mainnet blockchain in less than 4 hours. A fast machine with a really fast network connection and a good SSD can do it in about 2.5 hours. One of our goals was to reduce or eliminate the reliance on snapshots for mainnet, and I think we have accomplished that goal with the new sync speed. We have also streamlined the in-memory structures for the blockchain which shaves some memory use.
There are so many goodies here it is hard to summarize them all.
I would like to thank all of the contributors to this release, but especially thank @cyrossignol, whose incredible contributions formed the backbone of this release. I would also like to pay special thanks to @barton2526, @caraka, and @Quezacoatl1, who tirelessly helped during the testing and polishing phase on testnet with testing and repeated builds for all architectures.
The developers are proud to present this release to the community and we believe this represents the starting point for a true renaissance for Gridcoin!

How-to: setup your multisignature Cold wallet in Bitcoin Core 0.20 (highest security setup)

Last release of Core is amazing !
The main new feature is sortedmulti descriptor. This allows you to import your multisig setup in Core almost as if it was Electrum when combine to the new PSBT export in GUI !
As it needs command line and some weird checksum, you also need to input very long command in the console and if you made a mistake, you cannot copy the last command you made. So take your time when the commands are long to check everything and don't miss anything, use copy paste before validating the long command. You only have to do this once fortunately :)
I detail here how you do it with a k of n setup, good luck:
And you are DONE ! You should get the exact same addresses than Electrum and you can created receiving addresses in Qt ! To send money, just go to the send section, use the new coin control feature and export a partially signed transaction. You can use HWI or Electrum to sign it with your hardware wallets !
Notice: You can import more or less than 2000 addresses of each type. If less, blockchain rescan is faster but you may need to redo what we have done here later when all addresses will have been used once. If more, it is the contrary.

You now have the most possibly secure setup in one software: multisig with hardware on the full node wallet. When Bitcoin Core 0.21.0 will be out, we will also have native descriptor wallet so maybe we will have HD version of this. But for now, this is the best you can do ! Enjoy :)

This release features PoSV v2.supermajority activation and new staking ruleset (and minor misc fixes). v3.0.1 is still not yet MacOS Catalina compatible. We are still working and should have that fix issued very soon. Sincere apologies to our Mac-using ReddHeads.
It is particularly important that all users upgrade, as once PoSV v2 is enforced, version 4 blocks will be rejected from the network entirely.
Therefore v3.0.1 is a "strongly recommended" update for all users. Note: If you have already installed v3.0.0, this upgrade is not required. This is a new major version release of Reddcoin.
Previously, the original and subsequent versions of Reddcoin were taken from a fork of the Litecoin code base.
With the release of Reddcoin V2.0.0, the code was based directly from a fork of Bitcoin. This allows for better source control and feature implementation from upstream changes into the future
With the release of Reddcoin V3.0.0, the PoSV stake reward has been improved to allow for a target 5% network growth, in process re-incentivizing individual network stakers and providing for integrated dev support.
Upgrading to this release is strongly recommended and required for continued operation. Once a supermajority of 90% is reached, old wallets will no longer accept the new v5 blocks.

How to Upgrade
If you are running an older version of Reddcoin, shut it down. Wait until it has completely shut down (which may take a few minutes for older versions). Run the installer (on Windows) or just copy over /Applications/Reddcoin-Qt (on Mac) or reddcoind/reddcoin-qt (on Linux).
Start wallet. All done!
Reddcoin v3.0.0 introduced an updated PoSV method to better distribute staking rewards and target a overall 5% network growth. Staking and relay policy enhancements 
To implement PoSV v2, Reddcoin Core's block templates are now for version 5 blocks only. When PoSV v2 consensus (Supermajority 9000/10000) is reached, only v5 blocks will be accepted by the network.This equates to approximately 90% of blocks being generated over 1 week period. BTC Node. Need help with Ubuntu and BTC core program. To the Linux experts here in reddit.

The good thing of loosing a post, is that you have to retype everything and this means that you are able to shorten the post.
So. TLDR, I have 2 hdd, 80gb and 320, the second one has only, all the Blockchain info, from another already running node. I am not able to tell BTC Core program that the files are already there so he does not need to download 300gb. After hours of Google and linux forums, I am stuck in this issue. Every time I type "bitcoin-qt" on my terminal, it shows as a first download. Any help will be appreciate.

English is not my first language, and this is being typed for second time (please have mercy on my grammar or misspelling mistakes), because I posted the question on linux subreddit nobody give a f..... so I decided to bring it here, posted a short post with the link and the automatic bot deleted because the of the link. I erased both the linux and the bitcoin post, and made a third one new, here, with plain text, copy pasting the info from the linux post. Never appeared on the "new" section of this sub. So hours of typing lost, and here we are.
Old Notebook. 80gb drive, and noob to Linux. Although I have some pc and logic knowledge, installed MINT due to a recommendation from a Bitcoin community, but since I have a friend with an already running node, with Ubuntu switched to this one, just to have the same system.
Once Ubuntu installed, on the 80gb and pc running, I copy and pasted the whole bitcoin folder from my friends pc to my 320 gb. Up to here all was good. But here is the problem

My friend, who does not understand nothing about linux, is owner of a company and has an IT guy who made everything for him, but would not be willing to help me a lot, (just to be good with his boss but right now it is not reachable for me), but when we where on my pc he told me that Linux is very sensitive to ports, in other words, a small usb change, will do a program to loose the path for the files. SO, instead of using the 320gb disk on USB i installed on this notebook second Hdd bay (its an old high end laptop with 2 sata connectors), he was able to set the program and everything went well for a couple of hours, Bitcoin Core program started synchronizing, downloading very little info.

I needed to turn of the pc to move it, so closed the program (waited until bitcoin core program told me was safe to) and turn it off, then turn it on again, and the problem was there, bitcoin core program started trying to download the whole blockchain in the spare 2gb of the 320 gb disk.
So what it seemed to happen is that even when the disk is installed on a sata bay from the motherboard, as I did not installed ubunutu with this disk connected it's route (adress?) is dinamyc and that is why BTC Core Program lost the files and does not recognize it.
After hours of google, linux forums and "askubuntu" i was able to, mount the 320gb disk, first editing the fstab ( i followed the guide in "askubuntu.com/questions/125257/how-do-i-add-an-additional-hard-drive") by the way. Trying to use VIM editor was a pain, it is REALLY difficult to type something there, and save it without pressing a wrong key. I had to cancel and start over at least a dozen times (plus reading several guides), but still was not able to mount the disk (Actually after following the steps, the hdd (320) disappeared from the GUI). went back, erased, and the did the NANO steps, and I THINK that now the hard drive it is fixed (before, any change,when restarting the second hdd took some time to appear, now it seems that is mounted and to a fixed adress). Well, after mounting the hdd, I tryed to call the bitcoin-qt and the initial download page appear and again tries to download from the initial block. I searched over hours "file association in ubuntu", "program files path" etc etc and the only thing I found is how to set up the desired software to open a file.

For you to understand my mess, when I did the "user:user" thing, I did not understand completely what I was doing, (yes I had to be in sudo) BUT i think I managed to did the correct thing as both hdd are shown in the Ubuntu GUI.

Some additional data is
Both hard drives are formated in Ext4
I have (I think that) a fstab.bak before any changes

I knwo that linux users sometimes ask for details on the system, just tell me the commands and i can run them to stick any info needed.

I’m a longtime blockchain enthusiast and developer and one of my biggest gripes about this space is how quickly every new project is widely dismissed as a “scam” or “shitcoin” by so many people before it even gets off the ground. Sure, there is a lot of uncharted territory with pirates lurking to steal your bags left and right but with a small amount of personal education you can exist safely in the world of crypto I promise! With this article I aim to help lift your knowledge a little higher while helping keep your funds a little safer!

So What Is Happening?

On Tuesday February 18, 2020 a new coin named Ring (RNG) will be minted. This coin aims to bring two unique and fresh methods of proofing to the crypto game, quite literally: Agent-Based Hive Mining (borrowed from LCC) and Proof-of-Play Mining, where literal gameplay is used to hash and reward miners! To celebrate and help spread the word, the team is giving away claims of free RNG to all holders of the following coins:
  • Litecoin Cash (LCC)
  • Bitcoin (BTC)
  • Dash (DASH)
  • Dogecoin (DOGE)
It's being touted as the world's first crypto "4-way fork" but I'd really call it more of a "4-way claim" since its a brand new chain and not based on the code of any of the rewarded coins. It's simply a clever method of allowing a wider range of coin holders a chance to participate in the launch of these exciting new features!

How Will This Process Work?

On the 18th of February, a balance snapshot will be taken of the four chains listed above. Anyone holding a balance with any of these coins at the time of the snapshot will be forever eligible to claim their RNG at any time. Because the only way to prove ownership of a crypto address is to supply the private keys, and pretty much EVERYONE will tell you to guard those things with your life, below I will outline exactly what to do so there is absolutely 0% risk of losing a single satoshi! This method will apply to ANY claim rewards of any coin in the future as well. Always practice #SafeForking!

How Do I Safely Claim My RNG?

STEP 1 -- BEFORE THE SNAPSHOT -- VERIFY ACCESS TO YOUR PRIVATE KEYS
All core wallets will allow you to export a private key of any address in your wallet but many third party services like exchanges and hot wallets do not allow access to them. In these cases you will need to send your funds out of the third party service and into some kind of personal wallet where you can reach the private keys yourself. Then just wait for the snapshot to happen…
To make things easier on yourself, you can optionally collect your original coins into as few addresses as possible BEFORE the snapshot. Doing so reduces the number of keys you will need to empty and import later. It’s just less work!
\** SNAPSHOT HAPPENS HERE... ****
STEP 2 -- ATER THE SNAPSHOT -- EMPTY ALL ADDRESSES YOU WISH TO CLAIM
After the snapshot is confirmed, withdraw all coins OUT of each of your origin coin addresses into brand new addresses leaving the original ones quite empty. This way when you import later there is NO risk of losing anything! Also know that after you import these private keys you should never use them again for safety’s sake! It’s kind of the whole reason you’re even reading this article in the first place.
STEP 3 -- EXPORT PRIVATE KEYS FOR ALL ADDRESS YOU WISH TO CLAIM
This is the most difficult part, are you ready? Once each claim address is confirmed to be EMPTY, you must obtain each one’s private keys. This will entirely depend on the wallet you use (QT example below) but for all core wallets there is generally an option for exporting private keys somewhere in there. Collect them all!
How to Export QT Wallet Private Keys:⛔️ — DISABLE INTERNET FOR SAFETY — ⛔️- Open the QT wallet client- Click on HELP in the menu bar- Click on DEBUG WINDOW- Click on the CONSOLE tab- Click inside the input box at the bottom(if your wallet is locked…)- Type: walletpassphrase [Password] 600(this unlocks your wallet for 10 minutes)- Type: dumpprivkey [Address]- Copy the output hash, paste it into a list somewhere.(repeat as needed, clear your clipboard history after)- Type: walletlock (if applicable)⚡ — RE-ENABLE YOUR INTERNET —
STEP 4 -- IMPORT ALL PRIVATE KEYS INTO RNG CORE WALLET
\** PLEASE VERIFY THAT EVERY CLAIM ADDRESS IS EMPTY BEFORE CONTINUING... ****
The final step is to simply import each of these private keys into the new Ring Core Wallet to claim your free RNG rewards. The wallet handles this part automatically and you will see your new RNG balance right away. You can find this option under the File > Import Private Keys menu.
Importing a private key is the only way to prove ownership of a crypto address so this is unavoidable if you want to claim new coins from it. The steps above will allow you to prove ownership of your snapshotted address balance plus use its empty key to then claim your new coins thus keeping your original coins completely protected in the brand new address with a new private key (which you should now also keep VERY private!)
By emptying the address before you import it’s private key you eliminate the risk of theft entirely. One cannot take from an already empty jar. It should also be noted to NEVER use the imported address again as an added safety precaution*!*

How Much RNG Will I Receive?

Litecoin Cash holders will receive the highest claim ratio (5000 LCC = 1 RNG) as the LCC team are the ones responsible for creating Ring and wanted to extend a heart-felt thank you to the LCC community for their years of support. All other coins will be based on a 1:1 ratio with the value of Bitcoin at the time of the fork. This of course means 1 BTC = 1 RNG. For DASH and DOGE, however, their BTC market prices will determine their reward ratios. (For example if DASH is trading at 0.015 BTC each, then each DASH coin will net you a reward of 0.015 RNG to match.) Of course you don't need whole coins to claim, partial decimals work just fine!

What Value Will RNG Have?

That, my friends, is entirely up to the markets. No one in the history of crypto has had a perfect track record of price predictions so I'm not even going to try here. I will say, though, having gotten to play with their Testnet a bit so far that I am very impressed with the new Proof-of-Play method and how they have initially implemented it. It bodes very good things for the future of their project and this coin so I personally would expect its value to hold and most likely rise steadily as more people become aware of this groundbreaking new tech and it's potential to expand outward!

Is Litecoin Cash Still Going To Exist?

Absolutely! At least, from what I can gather. LCC has it's own purposes and will continue to be developed on. Ring is not meant to be a replacement or upgrade of any kind to Litecoin Cash. It is an entirely different proofing algorithm and a different mission statement altogether. It's more so meant to help expose the amazing new technologies developed on the LCC blockchain to a wider audience beyond simply its own fan base. If anything it'll act a sister chain that can help expose more folks to LCC in the future!

I know a lot of people get scared easily in crypto because of the rampant scamming that goes on but I've watched this team work their asses off for two years to get out from under the stain of Charlie Lee's very biased, uneducated "its a scam" tweet which was endlessly parroted throughout the Litecoin community with nothing but blind party loyalty and no due diligence. The LCC folks are kind, wonderful hard-working people with big hearts and ambition and they have actually developed a unique proofing methodology that is likely going to impress a lot of people!
So before you go jumping on the "it's just another shitcoin" bandwagon please stop and take a real hard look at both Litecoin Cash (LCC) and Ring (RNG): two viable projects with something to bring to the table! If nothing else, hey, just claim your new coins and dump them off for some free money. You literally cannot lose if you PRACTICE SAFE FORKING!!!

The Xtrabytes scam needs to be shut down and the people need to face criminal charges

I came across something the other day that caught my attention. I decided to finally read their first ever post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1793468.0 on bitcointalk.org. Until now, I had only looked at the first page or two. Some interesting bits from the first few pages:
1 year and 10 months later, we have no actual proof that he is a real person (at least not who he claims to be). The proof he is a real developer is extremely limited. We have zero proof that he is capable of developing what he claims he has. XBY has been anything but transparent. All 3 of these claims appear to be to entice people into buying into the Xtrabytes scam.
This should have NEVER been done, though it’s not surprising that C-Cex would do something so incredibly stupid. They should have delisted XBY, which would have forced Borzalom to start from scratch and apply for listing on the exchange with a new coin he created. Had they done this, it’s likely this whole scam would have never happened, as he has shown no development skills whatsoever and likely could not have made anything from scratch.
All that is IF it even is the true story. I don’t believe it to be. I believe Borz was in on Bitmox, which is why he had the source code. No chat with C-Cex ever happened, which is why the messages between Borz and C-cex support that are included in the post are plaintext when other bits of info are snippets and screenshots. He didn’t provide a snippet picture because the conversation never happened. There is further proof that it didn’t happen if you look at the language used by both Borz and the support person - they use the same language, which is notable by the overuse of adverbs, such as ‘very’ and ‘perfectly’. Borz typed these messages himself.
No additional code has ever been shown. The new algorithm he claims to have created, Proof of Signature, has never been seen or proven. Given the details, It’s likely that he never did any additional coding after the hard fork and the code is nearly the exact same as when he closed it.
If you care to continue reading, they get called out be being a scam within the first few pages by multiple users. The delays and stalls start almost immediately. Borz has never shown any additional code, as it doesn’t exist.

You can find Borzalom‘ real identity, as well as old posts from 3 coins, like Identity, that he copied from someone else and then shut down abruptly out of nowhere. He claims he’s from Hungary, but he had a business registered in Florida. Everything points to him living in Florida. He’s not deaf and he’s not a world class coding god.
It kind of becomes a rabbit hole of sorts, but if you care to read, it’s quite interesting and IMO proves without a doubt XtraBytes is 100% a scam.
Nothing has changed. Borzalom and CCR are criminals. They deserve to be in prison. There is enough proof of XBY being a fraud and conversely no proof their technology exists whatsoever.
XtraBytes needs to be shut down and the people responsible need to face criminal charges, that includes all their mods and team members that KNOW this is a scam, but keep it up because they’re being paid.

I’m a longtime blockchain enthusiast and developer and one of my biggest gripes about this space is how quickly every new project is widely dismissed as a “scam” or “shitcoin” by so many people before it even gets off the ground. Sure, there is a lot of uncharted territory with pirates lurking to steal your bags left and right but with a small amount of personal education you can exist safely in the world of crypto I promise! With this article I aim to help lift your knowledge a little higher while helping keep your funds a little safer!

So What Is Happening?

On Tuesday February 18, 2020 a new coin named Ring (RNG) will be minted. This coin aims to bring two unique and fresh methods of proofing to the crypto game, quite literally: Agent-Based Hive Mining (borrowed from LCC) and Proof-of-Play Mining, where literal gameplay is used to hash and reward miners! To celebrate and help spread the word, the team is giving away claims of free RNG to all holders of the following coins:
  • Litecoin Cash (LCC)
  • Bitcoin (BTC)
  • Dash (DASH)
  • Dogecoin (DOGE)
It's being touted as the world's first crypto "4-way fork" but I'd really call it more of a "4-way claim" since its a brand new chain and not based on the code of any of the rewarded coins. It's simply a clever method of allowing a wider range of coin holders a chance to participate in the launch of these exciting new features!

How Will This Process Work?

On the 18th of February, a balance snapshot will be taken of the four chains listed above. Anyone holding a balance with any of these coins at the time of the snapshot will be forever eligible to claim their RNG at any time. Because the only way to prove ownership of a crypto address is to supply the private keys, and pretty much EVERYONE will tell you to guard those things with your life, below I will outline exactly what to do so there is absolutely 0% risk of losing a single satoshi! This method will apply to ANY claim rewards of any coin in the future as well. Always practice #SafeForking!

How Do I Safely Claim My RNG?

STEP 1 -- BEFORE THE SNAPSHOT -- VERIFY ACCESS TO YOUR PRIVATE KEYS
All core wallets will allow you to export a private key of any address in your wallet but many third party services like exchanges and hot wallets do not allow access to them. In these cases you will need to send your funds out of the third party service and into some kind of personal wallet where you can reach the private keys yourself. Then just wait for the snapshot to happen…
To make things easier on yourself, you can optionally collect your original coins into as few addresses as possible BEFORE the snapshot. Doing so reduces the number of keys you will need to empty and import later. It’s just less work!
\** SNAPSHOT HAPPENS HERE... ****
STEP 2 -- ATER THE SNAPSHOT -- EMPTY ALL ADDRESSES YOU WISH TO CLAIM
After the snapshot is confirmed, withdraw all coins OUT of each of your origin coin addresses into brand new addresses leaving the original ones quite empty. This way when you import later there is NO risk of losing anything! Also know that after you import these private keys you should never use them again for safety’s sake! It’s kind of the whole reason you’re even reading this article in the first place.
STEP 3 -- EXPORT PRIVATE KEYS FOR ALL ADDRESS YOU WISH TO CLAIM
This is the most difficult part, are you ready? Once each claim address is confirmed to be EMPTY, you must obtain each one’s private keys. This will entirely depend on the wallet you use (QT example below) but for all core wallets there is generally an option for exporting private keys somewhere in there. Collect them all!
How to Export QT Wallet Private Keys:

- Open the QT wallet client
- Click on HELP in the menu bar
- Click on DEBUG WINDOW
- Click on the CONSOLE tab
- Click inside the input box at the bottom
(if your wallet is locked…)
Type: walletpassphrase [Password] 600
(this unlocks your wallet for 10 minutes)
- Type: dumpprivkey [Address]
- Copy the output hash, paste it into a list somewhere.
(repeat as needed, clear your clipboard history after)
- Type: walletlock (if applicable)
⚡ — RE-ENABLE YOUR INTERNET — ⚡
DONE!
STEP 4 -- IMPORT ALL PRIVATE KEYS INTO RNG CORE WALLET
\** PLEASE VERIFY THAT EVERY CLAIM ADDRESS IS EMPTY BEFORE CONTINUING... ****
The final step is to simply import each of these private keys into the new Ring Core Wallet to claim your free RNG rewards. The wallet handles this part automatically and you will see your new RNG balance right away. You can find this option under the File > Import Private Keys menu.
Importing a private key is the only way to prove ownership of a crypto address so this is unavoidable if you want to claim new coins from it. The steps above will allow you to prove ownership of your snapshotted address balance plus use its empty key to then claim your new coins thus keeping your original coins completely protected in the brand new address with a new private key (which you should now also keep VERY private!)
By emptying the address before you import it’s private key you eliminate the risk of theft entirely. One cannot take from an already empty jar. It should also be noted to NEVER use the imported address again as an added safety precaution*!*
👏👏👏 DONE! ENJOY YOUR FREE MONEY! 👏👏👏

How Much RNG Will I Receive?

Litecoin Cash holders will receive the highest claim ratio (5000 LCC = 1 RNG) as the LCC team are the ones responsible for creating Ring and wanted to extend a heart-felt thank you to the LCC community for their years of support. All other coins will be based on a 1:1 ratio with the value of Bitcoin at the time of the fork. This of course means 1 BTC = 1 RNG. For DASH and DOGE, however, their BTC market prices will determine their reward ratios. (For example if DASH is trading at 0.015 BTC each, then each DASH coin will net you a reward of 0.015 RNG to match.) Of course you don't need whole coins to claim, partial decimals work just fine!

What Value Will RNG Have?

That, my friends, is entirely up to the markets. No one in the history of crypto has had a perfect track record of price predictions so I'm not even going to try here. I will say, though, having gotten to play with their Testnet a bit so far that I am very impressed with the new Proof-of-Play method and how they have initially implemented it. It bodes very good things for the future of their project and this coin so I personally would expect its value to hold and most likely rise steadily as more people become aware of this groundbreaking new tech and it's potential to expand outward!

Is Litecoin Cash Still Going To Exist?

Absolutely! At least, from what I can gather. LCC has it's own purposes and will continue to be developed on. Ring is not meant to be a replacement or upgrade of any kind to Litecoin Cash. It is an entirely different proofing algorithm and a different mission statement altogether. It's more so meant to help expose the amazing new technologies developed on the LCC blockchain to a wider audience beyond simply its own fan base. If anything it'll act a sister chain that can help expose more folks to LCC in the future!

Backup
Backup your wallet to prevent losing the RDDs in your wallet! There are two methods to backup, do both. Make new backups if you create a new receiving address!
 
 
   
Boot with only 1 USB drive plugged in:
Make sure only the USB drive (with the swap partition and data partition) is plugged in when you boot up your Raspberry Pi. This to make sure the swap partition (/dev/sda1) is recognized correctly.   If you boot up with multiple USB drives, Lubuntu might see the USB drive with the swap partition as the second drive (instead of the first drive), and ignore the 2 GB swap partition. If this happens, starting Reddcoin can render the Raspberry Pi unresponsive.
   
Connection issues If you have issues syncing the blockchain because you have 0 network connections, please follow the instructions in this thread.
   
Start Reddcoin Core easier
Run a shell script (.sh file), so you can start Reddcoin just by double clicking on an icon on your Desktop.
   
Minimization options
Adjust minimization options, so you can safely press on the X button (the close/exit button on the upper right corner).
   
RealVNC VNC Viewer (client) and VNC Connect (server): To remote connect to the Raspberry Pi, I use VNC Viewer ad VNC Connect from RealVNC.
 
   
Chromium as browser: The updates break Firefox, the browser crashes when you try to run it. Install another browser, Chromium, to solve this issue.
   
Updates / Upgrades
If Software Updater shows up and tells you that there is updated software available, do not install the updates using Software Updater. Use LXTerminal to update Lubuntu.

SYS Origin

Why?

Because cold wallets, such as those stored offline in a text file as I keep recommending in my standard advice below:

Are without doubt THE SAFEST way to store your coins. Plus, they consume no resources. No bandwidth, no network stress for every node we have, no storage of 20Gb+ blockchains, no weeks of waiting for things to sync, no tearing your hair out and posting desperate pleas for help, and most importantly, no coins irretrievably lost because you or your client screwed up.

What?

Wallets, ALL WALLETS are nothing but numbers. Very large numbers, but fundamentally no different from “7”, “42”, “911” or a phone number. They cannot be created nor destroyed, and you either know them or you don’t. Anyone who knows a key can use it to spend any coins it controls. Anyone who doesn’t know it, can’t. Don’t be the guy who doesn’t know his own keys. Keep them safe. Make copies. Keep those safe. Don’t let your friends, kid brother or random burglar find them, but don’t lose them either.
The only other thing you need for a fully functional wallet is a way to spend coins. Coinb.in is such a way. There are others, such as DogeCoinMultiSig.org which tomcarbon built.
Oh, and you can and should download it and run it locally.

Where?

The default entry point for coinb.in is https://coinb.in/#settings because this settings page is very well hidden. Its in the tiny gear wheel on the Broadcast page.
Looking across the top of the page, you can see

We’re only going to use three of these. New, Sign, Broadcast.
Now, keep in mind that coinb.in is an old Bitcoin tool which tomcarbon added Dogecoin to. Sometimes it thinks its dealing with Bitcoin still, so if you see anything odd, go and make sure you’ve selected Dogecoin in the Settings page.

When?

This tool should be the only place you spend coins. Sure, some clients may look more convenient, but they all suffer from a very big coin-losing flaw. Whenever you split a UTXO, they create a new wallet to send the change to. And they DON’T TELL YOU! This means unless you back up after every transaction, you run a high risk of finding all your coins have ‘disappeared’ from your wallet, and you don’t recognise where they went.
So if you use a client for the convenience as well as a text list of your wallets, you won’t know to add a new wallet to your masterfile. Its best to ditch the clients entirely.

How?

Now we come to the nitty-gritty. Lets use those three wallets above and assume that #1 is the source, #2 the destination and #3 the change wallet. Note that these won’t actually work, as none of them have ever been used, but they will do as examples.
New Transaction
Located at the bottom of the New menu, this will give you a page to enter your wallets and amounts.
In the top field, you enter your source address or Key. If you use the key, it will calculate the address when you click the Load button, which should match what you expected. Note that Load only brings in the first 100 UTXOs. This is so that you can retrieve coins from high-volume wallets which would kill any client. Coinb.in is in fact the ONLY WAY to do this, as even QT falls over around 600 UTXOs.
You will see the total balance that was loaded in the Transaction Fee field. And also in the Inputs tab, where you can go to adjust which UTXOs to spend.
Now you need to add the wallet(s) and amounts to send to them. Lets suppose the source contained a single UTXO for 1,000 Doge. You want to send 500 of them. So you would enter the #2 address in the Address field, and 500 in the Amount field. The Fee now changes to 500, which is not what you want.
So you click the + button to bring up a new line, enter the change address and the other 500, making the fee zero.
And you’re done. Check that the Fee is indeed zero. Check that the amounts shown in the Outputs and Inputs tabs match exactly.

THIS IS CRITICAL!

There is a bug which will send all the coins to the miners if the Outputs exceed the Inputs. I would have expected the Fee to show as negative in such a situation, but it doesn’t. BE WARNED!
Once everything looks right, hit the Submit button.
This will give you a block of hex code. Copy it.
Sign
Go to the Sign tab and paste it. Add your private key for the source wallet and click Submit. Note this can be done offline for safety.
This will give you another block of hex, the SIGNED transaction.
Broadcast
Copy this and paste it in the Broadcast tab and click Submit.
That’s it. Your coins are on their way. Make a cuppa and settle in while they arrive in a minute or three.
Note: All fields retain their values unless you refresh the page! This can be a boon when doing multiple transactions, such as when emptying a huge wallet. But it can also be a trap for the unsuspecting. Refresh or close the window when you’re done.

Who?

Who should use this?
Absolutely EVERYONE!
Even if you’re wedded to your client in some satanic blood-contract, you should still know how this works, because sooner or later you’re going to have a problem you can’t fix without it.
Definitely download the site and store it on every device you have. On every USB backup of your wallets. On your phone (well, except iOS which doesn’t do local HTML), etc, etc, etc.

Anti-FUD: The BIP148 enforcing client - a walkthrough.

There seems to be a lot of FUD going around surrounding https://github.com/uasf/bitcoin/tree/0.14 <--that little guy. I'm a programmer, so let me walk you through what, exactly, is changed, and how you can verify what changes for yourself.
So, to get started, click on the 'Compare' button just below the green button that says 'clone or download'. link
This shows you every single change that has been merged between bitcoin core, in the 0.14 branch (the branch that was used to create the 0.14 Core client many of us use) and this repository's version of the 0.14 client, which requires any blocks after August 1, 2017 to support Segwit.
So, let's go through the page, top to bottom, and explain what it is telling you.

This is where the 'fun' (programming) begins.

Red lines, which always start with a minus sign, means that line was removed from the file. Green lines, which always start with a + sign, mean that line was added. "But the line wasn't removed, just some stuff was added to the end!" Correct! This is a 'diff-ism'. Diff being the name of the program used to show differences between a file. Diff doesn't highlight just the part of the line that changed, it highlights the entire line, and leaves it to you to spot the changes in the line.
From the above, we can see a parameter was added to the end of the line. "But what does the line do!" Well, what you're looking at is a function declaration. What is a function? Well, imagine you wanted to build a robot to make sandwiches for you. You could make the sandwich yourself, but it's easier if an automated system does it for you. The function is like the robot; you put a specific set of tasks into the robot's programming, give it a specific set of inputs (bread, knife, meat/cheese/spreads/etc) and it returns the resultant sandwich. The way to read the declaration is this:

  1. std::string The first argument is the return type of the function. In this case, a C++ string.
  2. FormatSubVersion This is the name of the function
  3. (const std::string& name, the first parameter of the function, since it is unchanged from Core, and unmodified by other changes in the file, I will not bother explaining what it does.
  4. int nClientVersion, Second parameter to the function. Same thing, original, unmodified, skipping.
  5. const std::vector& comments, Parameter 3, unchanged, skipping.
  6. , const bool fBaseNameOnly) Parameter 4, 'const bool' means two things: 1) we cannot change the value of this variable in the code. 2) it's a 'bool' type, which is short for boolean. It an either be true or false, those are the only values it can ever have. What does it do? Let's keep reading.

The above is the change uses the newly minted parameter 4 to add a bit of text into the output stream. Specifically, the string "UASF-Segwit:0.2(BIP148)/" is tacked on to whatever is ahead of it in the output stream. The net result of this change is that clients using this code will report their client version as '/Santoshi:0.14.0/UASF-Segwit:0.2(BIP148)/' instead of the standard value of '/Santoshi:0.14.0/'.

src/clientversion.h

Within C or C++ programming, you have the concept of 'code files' (ending in .c or .cpp) and 'header files' (ending in .h). Strictly speaking, any code can be in either file and the compiler will figure it out (assuming you give it enough information to do so). However, programming conventions exist. Since I assume the readers of this post are (largely) not programmers, I won't bore you. It's a convention used for sanity only, and it is a convention followed by the bitcoin source code. In general, program code that 'does stuff' goes in .c and .cpp files, and the code needed to tell the compiler (compiler = the thing that converts these text files into a program) where to 'find stuff' goes into .h files.

Well, because this is the exact same function call we just talked about in the previous section, I'll skip going through the parameters one by one, and instead focus only on the change: , bool fBaseNameOnly = false).
"WAIT! It has 'const' before bool in the .cpp file! That's bad right!?" No. The compiler will see const in the .cpp file and mandate the variable be const.
"WAIT! Here it says '= false' and in the .cpp file it doesn't!" Again, not a problem. Remember how I said some code goes in .c/.cpp files, and some in .h files? Well, this is a case where which file contains what code actually does matter. Basically, you can't set a default value for a parameter inside a .c/.cpp file. You can only do that in a .h file. So...that's 100% correct. Here is the souce code for a quick little program to see this behavior:

In this case, 'read only' means 'was declared const'.
Remember how a 4th parameter was added in the code above? Well, you have to tell the compiler to expect that parameter, which you do here, in the header file. That line of code tells the compiler to expect the 4th parameter. It also sets the default value of the parameter, should the caller not specify it, to be false.
Thus, you can call this function two ways:

Using method 1 would result in a User Agent string of '/Test:99900/UASF-Segwit:0.2(BIP148)/', because the program uses the default value of 'false' and so it sticks in the bit about BIP148 support. Using method 2 would result in '/Test:99900/' "Wait, wait, how did you figure that out?" Look here, scroll to the bottom (line 88) and that is the FormatSubVersion function we went over above. All you do is built the string in steps as you read the code:

SO, in total, this function literally just creates a string. Much like the robot-sandwich example, you give the function a client name, version, and list of comments and it builds you a string containing those things.

src/test/util_tests.cpp

This file is part of the automated testing for bitcoind/bitcoin-qt. When you compile the software, you'd typically run 'make check' before installing the software, to ensure that your changes didn't break anything and that your compile didn't go wrong. With the effort I've put into explaining the change to FormatSubVersion in the past two section, I believe you can now see that the only change made to this test is to ensure that the newly added code performs as expected.
That said, there is a 'defect' in this code. He should not have removed the 3 existing tests. He should have added 3 new tests. That way he'd have both 'positive' and 'negative' test case coverage. That said, it isn't something to fret about.

The entire section is newly added. Anything it does will be 'in addition to' whatever is already done. Let's go through the change line by line:
"Ok, but what about 1501545600? How do we know that?" It's an epoch timestamp. Google 'epoch converter', copy-paste that number in, convert to UTC, and you'll see it is correct for what the comment says it is.
The '&&' at the end of the line means 'and'. So in this case, 'if the mean age of the past few blocks is greater than or equal to and ...'
You can see proof of this claim in the tests written in src/test/versionbits_tests.cpp lines 277-281. line 277 creates an 'old format' block, then (line 279) checks that the ComputeBlockVersion function works, then verifies that the bitwise-and function returns TOP_BITS, as expected.
If you are concerned that more might be needed to reject a block, simply view src/validation.cpp on line 1892 and see that standard bitcoin Core code rejects blocks in the same way as the SEGWIT patch does.
"So wait, what is the total requirement to reject a block again?"
  1. If the mean age of the past few blocks is greater than or equal to AND the mean age of the past few blocks is less than or equal to AND the previous block did not show that Segwit was in 'active' state:
  2. If all of the conditions in step 1 are met AND the block either does not support BIP9 messaging, or does not signal support for SEGWIT
  3. Then it will be rejected.
"So wait, what happens after the first segregated witness block pops across the network? Hasn't that already happened?" No. Blocks that support segwit have come across the network, but in order for IsWitnessEnabled to return 'true', the SEGWIT state would need to switch to 'active' (see BIP9 spec), which is the final state of any proposal, and the point at which the setting is considered an accepted part of the blockchain.

So, you see, no muss, no fuss. The day-1 bug where the logic was backwards has been fixed. There is nothing to fear.
